It is a symbolic trip for the President of the Republic, while the coronavirus epidemic is regaining strength in the country and the oldest people, the most threatened by the virus, are in no way protected by the epidemic rebound.

Emmanuel Macron arrived at the beginning of the afternoon in an Ehpad in Loir-et-Cher. The opportunity for him to recall the doctrine established since the end of confinement by the government. "We do not want to isolate our elders again," he assured during a press conference.

"We are going to support the establishment managers so that rules are enacted which allow proportionate rules", announced the president. "We will not defeat the virus by isolating our fellow citizens".

The Head of State wished to thank the nursing staff engaged alongside the elderly in these medico-social establishments. “In the situation we are in, we have to find the best organization. More proportional and fair. That is to say, test caregivers and those in contact with the elderly.

We need to have drastic rules, we need to work on education with families. "Without announcing any major measures for the management of the health crisis, Emmanuel Macron called on the French to" protect our seniors as much as possible ".

Macron : A law in the coming months

On the political front, the President of the Republic took advantage of this trip to announce an upcoming law on old age. This will be presented in the coming months, he said. At this stage, the Head of State has therefore not unveiled concrete measures but sought to define the state of mind.

It is, he says, "to invest in old age". According to him, this goes through the need to “upgrade professions, find better organizations, give more freedom to actors in the field”, by allowing them to “decompartmentalize things” and “work better between establishments”.

Emmanuel Macron says he wants to work on "the response at home" with the presence of auxiliaries, assistants or social workers as well as caregivers.

“And then it's a work of reorganization and investment, which involves innovation and organization, especially in terms of home automation,” he continues. The challenge, for him, "is to know how we give back a place to our elders so that they can live happily in society".
