On Friday, WHO announced that a person was reported to have been infected by Ebola in Congo-Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo) after no new cases were reported in seven weeks in the country. Had the positive trend persisted, then the WHO should have been prepared to declare that the Ebola outbreak in the country was over. So this is not the case now and this weekend it has been reported that two people have died in Ebola in Congo-Kinshasa.
The ongoing Ebola outbreak broke out in August 2018 and is so far the second deadliest to hit the world. The World Health Organization WHO writes in a statement:
"After 52 days without a case, surveillance and response teams on the ground have confirmed a new case of Ebola in DRC.
We have been preparing for and expecting more cases.
Unfortunately, this means the DRC government will not be able to declare an end to the outbreak on Monday, as hoped. "
The ongoing ebola outbreak in Africa, since it started almost two years ago, has infected about 3300 people and of these about 2200 have died. The world's worst ebola outbreak so far erupted in western Africa in 2014 and around 11,000 people died of the deadly virus.
